OrthoVet, LLC can fabricate custom made splints from a cast of the animals limb. These splints are made for the "Long Term" problems.
We can also make a Heavy Duty Version from our existing casts. All of these splints are constructed from durable plastic with a Heavy Duty strap system.

"All of these animals have readily used their splints within minutes of application and my clients have enthusiastically embraced them as well.”

**OrthoVet, LLC Splints should be used under the direct supervision of your animals Veterinarian, Physical Therapists or Rehabilitation Professional. The splints/braces are a “Rigid Lower Limb Device” and should not be kept on the animal full time, unless prescribed by your Veterinarian. The animal does risk muscle atrophy if splints are left on for long periods of time. Always refer to your Veterinarian for maximum wearing schedule.

Before you begin...

  • Make sure the animal is inside or in a Controlled Environment before fitting the splint. This will prevent the risk of injury due to the animal breaking away with the splints on.
  • Have an extra person help hold the animal for the first several fittings.
  • Unfasten all Velcro straps before starting to apply the splint.
  • Apply a stockinet or use CoHere Vet Wrap.  (CoHere can be purchased directly from OrthoVet)
**Front Limb Splints**

Start with the animal in a sitting position if possible. Place the paw in the “Paw Section” first and fasten bottom Velcro strap. Then fasten middle and top strap. Try having the animal stand with splint and snug the Velcro straps again beginning with bottom strap and working your way up.

Front limb splints should extend up to mid-forearm and animals paw should sit flat on the bottom of the “Paw Section” with no toes hanging over the edge.

Note** OrthoVet, LLC Splints are not designed to extend over the elbow.

**Rear Limb Splints**

Start with the animal in a standing position if possible. Place the paw in the “Paw Section First” and fasten bottom Velcro strap. Then fasten middle and top straps. Try having the animal take a few steps and snug the Velcro straps again beginning with bottom strap and working your way up.

Rear limb splints should extend up over the Hock or Heal of the animal and the paw should sit flat on the bottom of the “Paw Section” with no toes hanging over the edge.

Note** OrthoVet, LLC splints are not designed to support the Knee (Stifle) of the animals limb.

**Fitting Tricks and Ideas**

  • We do recommend a light layer of CoHere Vet wrap on the animal leg first and then apply the splint. This will secure the fit nicely.
  • A light weight stockinette applied to the animals limb first and then apply the splint will also aid in comfort.
  • If the animal suffers from Nerve Problems or Paralysis Issues, try messaging the limb for a few minutes before applying the splint. This procedure will help relax the tendons for an optimum fit.

**Adjusting an OrthoVet, LLC splints**

An OrthoVet splint can be customized for a better fit. Please call our office before trimming or modifying a splint. Our customer service staff can advise on the best procedure for making the adjustment.

**Wearing Schedule:

An OrthoVet, LLC splint should not be left on the animal for long periods of time. Never leave the animal unsupervised with the splint on.

Introduce the splint slowly when fitting for the first several times. Two hours on – Two hours off, and remove the splint at night when animal is quiet.

For best results, always consult with your Veterinarian for the appropriate wearing schedule for your pet.

OrthoVet Splints are a "generically Made Splint" and will not fit to every contour of the animals leg. Please call our toll free phone number if you have any questions on the sizing or fit of these splints. 866-207-9205

*The XX-Large size splint is a custom made item. These are fabricated individually. Please allow 2-3 extra business days for shipping on this size.

OrthoVet Splints are fabricated out of a durable one piece molded hard plastic shell with a soft "Closed Cell" foam lining. The splints are fully lined for safety and comfort. Molded contours aid in comfort and less stress while healing. There is a Grip Pad on the bottom for sure footing and three Velcro straps with soft strap pads keep the splint in place for a secure fit. The splints can be adjusted or modified by trimming or heating. For heating and flairing of splints, a Heat Gun is required.
